From Hospitality to Hard Work

I started my professional life in upstate New York , rising through the ranks in the hospitality industry. I loved the energy, the people, and the freedom the work gave me—and I truly believed I’d spend my life in it. Driven by that passion, I moved to Nashville to take my hospitality career to the next level.

When Plans Change

But when I arrived, nothing went as planned. My hospitality goals fell through, and so did my dream of attending MTSU for a master’s in teaching. Still, I needed to rebuild, so I took a leap into something brand new—floor care—as a way to adjust to a new culture and learn a hands-on skill.

From Rock Bottom to a New Beginning

With nothing to lose, I discovered that floor care wasn’t just a job—it was exciting, challenging, and deeply satisfying. I met an incredible mentor who taught me the ropes and became my business advisor. We’re still close to this day, and his guidance helped lay the foundation for my future.

When Injury Sparks Innovation

Eventually, I was given the chance to work on volleyball and basketball courts—even without prior experience. But shortly after returning from my honeymoon, I suffered a painful neck injury while using a heavy (and widely used) court-cleaning tool. That moment pushed me to invent a court-cleaning method and tool that reduced strain, increased efficiency, and delivered better shine than ever before.

A Process That Protects and Performs

For over a year and a half, this court-cleaning method has kept me safe while helping my clients’ courts stay flawless. I’ve built a business model around it—one designed especially for maintaining and preserving refinished athletic floors, where safety and shine really matter.

Why “Owori”?

Owori means “night” in Luganda, my husband’s language. The name felt perfect—not only because I’ve always been a night owl, but because most of the work I do now happens after hours, once the courts are clear. Naming the business Owori Court and Floor Care is a nod to my rhythm, my roots, and the quiet power of nighttime work.

A Job That Fits Who I Am

As a highly sensitive person, I’ve always found it hard to figure out where I truly fit in the world. But floor care surprised me. My particular floor work is a deeply individual craft that lets me work with focus, precision, and peace. My sensitivity—once something I struggled with—has become a strength that allows me to deliver consistent, high-quality results for my clients I wouldn't otherwise have.
